What is Noregs Mållag?
Noregs Mållag [‘The Norwegian Language Society’] is the leading membership organisation working to promote Nynorsk in Norway. It was founded in 1906.
With more than 13 000 members, and close to 200 local groups, Noregs Mållag is one of the largest member-based language organisations in the world. The organisation is active in all parts of Norway through cultural and political activities with other institutions and organisations. The youth organisation Norsk Målungdom has over 1500 members.
Noregs Mållag works to promote the use of and the conditions for Nynorsk in all areas of society, and wants more Norwegians to choose Nynorsk as their primary language. Today, about 600 000 people in Norway count Nynorsk as their first language.
